Canes in Cannes
Canes in Cannes-a story that utilizes alliteration, is tale of an old guy, a crusty old codger in his eighties, who one year took a trip to the Cannes film festival (it was on his bucket list). Walking around the glittering glitterati make him feel inferior, mainly because he was beat up looking and waddling around the beautiful streets of the town with a cane manufactured forty years before (the cane was a gift from his blind half-cousin). One day on his vacation, the old man's cane broke-the Cane is Cannes was gone forever. The old man suddenly succumbed to cardiac arrest-dying on the scene. The whole story, reported in a French newspaper, was seen a tragically comedic situation (comedic in the European sense). The story was then adapted into an artsy French film-Canes in Cannes. The film ironically failed to find an audience, as it was seen as a cliché-the worn out metaphor for the futility and stress of the human condition. This, however, did not prevent the film Canes in Cannes to fail financially. The film, adored by cane users worldwide, turned out to be a success, truly an example canes overcoming the indignities of getting older. The lesson of this tale is that aging may be no walk in the park, but it is far from being the worst thing on earth. Beauty can truly come of out sorrow, as proven by this tale, a dark, comedic look at the human experience, using a cane for me
